最初の歌詞は、1972年にイギリスのグループ、Plainsongのもの。
高校生ぐらいだったか、ラジオ（NHKのカントリーのバングむ）で流れてきたこの曲を録音。

アメリア・イアハートは、アメリカの女性飛行家であり、航空の分野で多くの記録を打ち立てた人物です。彼女は1897年にカンザス州で生まれ、1928年には女性として初めて大西洋横断飛行に成功しました。さらに、1932年には女性として初めて単独で大西洋を横断し、その功績でアメリカから飛行十字章を受章しました。
彼女の最も有名な挑戦は1937年の世界一周飛行です。この飛行でイアハートは太平洋上で消息を絶ち、その後彼女の行方については多くの推測がなされましたが、現在に至るまで彼女や飛行機の正確な墜落地点は発見されていません。この謎は今もなお多くの人々を引きつけ、様々な調査や研究が続けられています。
アメリア・イアハートはその生涯と業績を通じて、女性の可能性を広げ、航空分野だけでなく社会全体に影響を与えた重要な人物として記憶されています。彼女は女性の権利擁護者としても活動し、女性パイロットの団体「The Ninety-Nines」の創設メンバーの一人です。
